Feasting on the Word: Light to My Path

Year of Blessing: Be Fruitful and Multiply

  1. If we want to be fruitful and multiply we must be people of the word.

We are PEOPLE OF THE WORD

The foundation of our faith is the Holy Bible. We hold fast to the inerrant and timeless Word of God. We believe the Holy Scriptures are to be read individually, read and discussed corporately, and walked out as a community.

How do we walk out the Holy Scriptures? How do we walk in obedience according to His Word?

It begins by:

  1. Receiving the impartation of understanding

  2. This understanding of His Word is something that can only be imparted by the Holy Spirit

    1. Man cannot give you this understanding

    2. It is a work of His Spirit alone as He removes the veil from our eyes to see.

      • 16 But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image. 1 Corinthians 3:16-18

    3. Impart = gives

      • Understanding that only God can give

The Holy Spirit imparts understanding to us as the Son, Jesus is revealed to us.

We need a revelation of the Son, to receive the impartation of understanding.

JESUS OPENS UP THE MINDS TO UNDERSTAND

LUKE 24

28 As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther. 29 But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them.

30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. 32 They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”

33 They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together 34 and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.” 35 Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.

40 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. 41 And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and he took it and ate it in their presence.

44 He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”

45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.

  • These acts were symbols of what Christ had done. Jesus wasn’t merely breaking bread or eating fish. He was revealing Himself to them. Revealing to them the significance of what had happened on the cross.

  • As the Son was revealed to man, UNDERSTANDING WAS RELEASED!

JESUS HAS MADE A WAY FOR US ALL TO UNDERSTAND

Heb 10:19 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, 20 by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

When Jesus’ flesh, His body was broken for us on the cross, He opened made a way for ALL OF US to enter into His presence. All we must do is turn to Him in repentance and faith! When we do the veil is removed and we are given access to Him!

The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple. Ps 119:130

STRATEGY: ASK HOLY SPIRIT FOR AN IMPARTATION OF UNDERSTANDING.
You must understand the access you have been given. Man cannot reveal this to you. It is a work of the Spirit.

THE BIBLE IS NOT A TEXTBOOK! We cannot just read it void of the Spirit of God. We need the help of the Holy Spirit to impart understanding to us.

You must understand the access you have been given. Man cannot reveal this to you. It is a work of the Spirit.

What happens when we can see?

HIS WORD BECOMES A LIGHT TO OUR PATH!

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Ps 119:105

Your hands have made and fashioned me; give me understanding that I may learn your commandments. 119:73 (we learn what pleases the Father! We learned what He wants. We learn how to walk in obedience)

Are you reading the Word void of His Spirit? Or are you reading the word of God fully dependent on the Holy Spirit to impart understanding of His word?

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

What the word wisdom actually refers to:

  • If you need varied knowledge of things human or divine

  • If you need to learn something new

  • If you need the interpretation of dreams

  • If you need to give Godly advice

  • If you need to discover the meaning of a vision

  • If you need skill in the management of affairs

  • If you need to strategy to deal with men not disciples of Christ

  • If you need skill help to share biblical truth

  • If you need the knowledge and practice of how to live upright before God

YOU SHOULD ASK!

WARNING!!! DON’T SETTLE FOR WORLDLY WISDOM WHEN YOU HAVE ACCESS TO GOD HIMSELF!
